TPO Roofing Contractors — Birmingham Metro & the Alabama Gulf Coast
Prime Roofing & Restoration installs, repairs and replaces TPO roofing systems across the Birmingham metro and the Alabama Gulf Coast. Warehouses, retail centers, medical offices, schools, condo buildings and municipal properties. Call (205) 661-8190 inland or (251) 210-2671 on the coast.
What TPO Roofing Is
Thermoplastic polyolefin is a single-ply membrane installed over low-slope commercial roofs, with seams heat-welded rather than glued. That welded seam is the reason it outperforms older adhesive systems: the joint becomes part of the membrane instead of a bond that degrades.
Typical service life in Alabama is 20 to 30 years, and the reflective white surface matters more here than in most of the country. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, a cool roof can stay up to 50°F cooler than a conventional one in full sun — which on a Birmingham warehouse or a Gulf Shores condo block is a measurable line on the cooling bill.
Why It Suits Alabama Specifically
- Heat. Reflectivity cuts cooling load through a long southern summer, and reduces the thermal cycling that opens seams on darker systems.
- Humidity. TPO resists mold and algae growth better than modified bitumen, which matters in both Jefferson County and Baldwin County.
- Wind. Properly fastened and welded, TPO carries wind ratings that hold up on the coast — though coastal installations need a heavier attachment spec than inland ones.
- Salt air. The membrane itself is unaffected by salt. The fasteners and edge metal are not, which is why a Gulf Coast TPO roof needs coated or stainless hardware rather than standard galvanized.
TPO is one of several low-slope options. See flat roof systems for modified bitumen and built-up alternatives, or metal roofing where longevity matters more than up-front cost.
TPO Roofing Services
TPO Roof Repair
Seam separation, punctures, failed penetrations around HVAC curbs and drains, and storm damage. Most TPO failures start at a detail rather than in the open field of the roof, so the repair is usually smaller than the leak suggests — provided the insulation underneath is still dry. See roof repair.
TPO Roof Restoration and Coating
When a membrane is aging but the deck and insulation are sound, a silicone or acrylic coating adds 10 to 15 years for a fraction of replacement cost — and it often qualifies as a maintenance expense rather than a capital one, which changes how the work gets approved.
TPO Roof Replacement
Full tear-off and reinstallation when the insulation is saturated or seams are failing across the whole roof. We phase the work so the building stays operational. See roof replacement.
TPO Roof Installation
New construction and conversions from older built-up or modified bitumen systems. Heat-welded seams, mechanically fastened or fully adhered depending on wind zone and deck type. See roof installation.
Maintenance Programs
Twice-yearly inspection of seams, penetrations and drainage. On the coast this matters more than inland, because salt corrosion and ponding water do their damage quietly between storms. See roof maintenance and roof inspection.
Buildings We Work On
Warehouses and manufacturing plants, shopping centers and retail, medical clinics and healthcare offices, schools and universities, government and municipal buildings, and condo and multi-family properties. Full scope on our commercial roofing page.
Where We Install TPO
Birmingham metro — from our Alabaster office at 5 Brown Cir, covering Birmingham, Hoover, Alabaster and Calera. The retail and office stock along US-31, the Riverchase Galleria and Patton Creek corridors, and the medical buildings around Shelby Baptist are almost entirely low-slope, as is the warehouse and light industrial along I-459 and I-65. Storm reports for a claim: NWS Birmingham.
Gulf Coast — from our Orange Beach office at 25299 Canal Rd, covering Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Foley, plus the Eastern Shore. Condo towers along SR-182 and the Highway 59 retail corridor through Foley — around OWA, Tanger Outlets and the Sports Tourism Complex — are nearly all TPO or flat systems. Baldwin County storm reports come from NWS Mobile, not Birmingham.
Storm damage on a commercial roof usually runs through insurance — see storm damage repair.

Why Property Owners Choose Us for TPO
- We spec differently for the coast. A TPO roof in Gulf Shores needs coated or stainless fasteners and a heavier attachment pattern than the same roof in Hoover. Contractors who work one region and quote the other get this wrong.
- Repair and restoration before replacement, where it is honest. A coating on a sound deck buys 10 to 15 years at a fraction of the cost. We will tell you when that works and when it does not.
- Written scope with photographs. Documentation you can take to an owner, a board or a budget meeting — see our roofing materials range and client testimonials.
- Two offices, two regions. Alabaster for the Birmingham metro, Orange Beach for the Gulf Coast. Both are covered by crews already in the area.
- Licensed and insured in Alabama. Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board #30275, BBB accredited since 2019, 4.9 stars from more than 260 Google reviews. Full services list.

Thermoplastic polyolefin is a single-ply membrane installed over low-slope commercial roofs, with the seams heat-welded rather than glued. The welded seam is why it outperforms older adhesive systems — the joint becomes part of the membrane instead of a bond that degrades over time.
It depends on square footage, insulation, deck condition and attachment method, and coastal buildings cost more because they need heavier attachment and corrosion-resistant hardware. We inspect free and give a written scope with photographs before any work starts.

Can a TPO roof be repaired instead of replaced?
Applying a silicone or acrylic coating over an aging but structurally sound membrane. It adds 10 to 15 years for a fraction of replacement cost, and it frequently qualifies as a maintenance expense rather than a capital one — which matters for how the work gets approved.
Yes, with the right specification. The membrane itself is unaffected by salt air. The fasteners and edge metal are not, so a Gulf Coast TPO roof needs coated or stainless hardware rather than standard galvanized, plus a heavier attachment pattern for the wind zone.
The reflective white surface does measurably lower roof surface temperature. The U.S. Department of Energy reports that a cool roof can stay up to 50°F cooler than a conventional one in full sun. On a large low-slope building through an Alabama summer, that shows up on the cooling bill.
TPO is a single-ply membrane with heat-welded seams and a reflective surface. Modified bitumen is a multi-ply asphalt system that handles foot traffic better, which matters on roofs with regular HVAC servicing. TPO usually wins on energy performance; modified bitumen often wins on durability underfoot.
What Our Customers Say
✦ What customers say
Customers most often say Prime Roofing & Restoration makes the insurance side easy: a drone inspection shows the storm or hail damage, then the team files the claim and meets the adjuster, with Bill Spencer, Trey Knox, Eric and John Phillips named again and again. Many reviewers describe a full roof replacement finished in a single day, with project managers Solomon and David on site and a crew that covers shrubs and leaves no nails or debris behind. Facebook reviewers say the same, and many credit Bill by name for handling the claim. Homeowners around Alabaster and the Birmingham area also mention clear communication, storm repairs done on the first visit, and fair pricing.
