Roofing in Alabaster, AL — Roof Repair, Replacement & Storm Damage
Prime Roofing & Restoration is based in Alabaster — our office is on Brown Circle, not in another city with Alabaster added to the service list. We handle roof repair, replacement, storm damage and insurance work across the city and throughout Shelby County.
Alabaster’s housing runs deeper than most Birmingham suburbs. The old Siluria mill village along Buck Creek dates to the 1890s, with company-built houses that were sold to the mill workers in 1965. The US-31 corridor filled in through the 1950s and 60s. Then came the subdivision boom of the 1980s through the 2000s, and a fresh wave of building after Alabaster City Schools formed in 2013. Four different eras, four different roof situations, and telling them apart is most of what an accurate estimate depends on.
Roof Repair in Alabaster
Repair is what Alabaster homeowners search for most, and it is what we do most here. Wind-lifted and missing shingles, failed pipe boot and chimney flashing, valley leaks and rotted decking. On the older homes near the Siluria Mill District and along Buck Creek, leaks almost always start at a flashing detail rather than in the field of the roof. See our full roof repair scope.
Roof Replacement in Alabaster
The 1980s and 1990s subdivisions across Alabaster were built with three-tab shingles rated for 20 to 25 years, and Alabama heat pushes real-world life toward the low end of that. Our roof replacement process includes full tear-off, deck inspection, replacement of any rotted sheathing, new underlayment and flashing, and a magnet sweep before we leave. Many Alabaster replacements finish in a single day.
Roofing Materials
We install architectural asphalt shingles, standing seam metal, and premium systems including slate, cedar shake, tile, copper and synthetic. Full range on our roofing materials page.
Storm and Hail Damage Repair in Alabaster
Central Alabama sits in Dixie Alley, and Shelby County takes hail and straight-line wind most springs. Hail damage is rarely visible from the ground — the early signs are granules collecting in downspouts, dents in gutters and soft metals, and dark bruised spots where the shingle surface has been knocked loose. Most policies also have a filing window that closes sooner than homeowners expect. Our storm damage repair team documents everything properly so the claim holds up.
Insurance Claims Help
A large share of our Alabaster work runs through insurance. We meet the adjuster, document the damage, and handle supplement requests when the first offer does not cover the actual scope. Homeowners routinely tell us this is the part they were most worried about and least prepared for. More on our insurance claims assistance page.
Emergency Roof Repair and Leaks
An active leak does not wait for business hours. Our emergency roofing crews respond across Alabaster for temporary roof tarping, board-up and water intrusion control, so damage stops spreading while the permanent repair is scheduled.
Commercial Roofing in Alabaster
We work with businesses along the US-31 retail corridor, the Shelby Baptist medical district and multi-family properties across the city. TPO, modified bitumen and standing seam metal, plus scheduled maintenance programs. See commercial roofing and multi-family roofing.

Alabaster is the largest city in Shelby County, home to roughly 34,700 people and to Shelby Baptist Medical Center, the county’s only hospital. The city takes its name from the white high-calcium limestone quarried here, and its center is the Siluria Mill District — built around the old Buck Creek cotton mill, whose restored water tower is now on the city logo.
What Alabaster Roofs Are Up Against
- Spring hail and straight-line wind. Central Alabama is Dixie Alley, and March through May generates most Shelby County claims. You can check whether a storm actually hit your address through National Weather Service Birmingham storm reports at weather.gov/bmx.
- Heat and humidity. Alabama summers accelerate granule loss, worst on south and west-facing slopes with poor attic ventilation.
- Older housing stock. The Siluria mill houses and the 1950s–60s homes along US-31 have been re-roofed several times over. Layered shingles, aging decking and dated flashing details are common, and they change what a tear-off actually involves.
- Buck Creek and low-lying lots. Properties near the creek and its tributaries deal with drainage and moisture that shows up as decking rot long before the shingles look worn.
Roofing Permits in Alabaster
Roof replacements in Alabaster generally require a permit through the City of Alabaster, and inspection requirements differ from neighboring Jefferson County. We pull permits and schedule inspections as part of the job — you should never be asked to handle that yourself. City requirements are published at cityofalabaster.com, and our own roofing permitspage walks through the process.

We work closely with your insurance company to ensure accurate documentation, fast communication, and maximum claim value.

Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on what failed and how far the water traveled. A single failed pipe boot is a very different job from a valley leak that has been running into the decking for a season. We inspect free, show you photos of what we found, and give you a written number before any work starts.
Yes, and they need a different approach. Those homes date to the 1890s through the 1920s and most have been re-roofed several times, so we frequently find layered shingles, aging decking and flashing details that were current decades ago. We inspect the deck before quoting rather than pricing off square footage alone.
Hail damage is usually invisible from the ground. Look for granules in gutters and downspouts, dents in gutters, vents or soft metals, and dark bruised spots on shingles. You can confirm whether a storm actually hit your address through National Weather Service Birmingham storm reports at weather.gov/bmx. If one did, get an inspection even if the roof looks fine, because policies have filing deadlines.
In most cases yes, through the City of Alabaster. Requirements differ from neighboring Jefferson County, so contractors who mostly work north of the county line sometimes get this wrong. We pull permits and schedule inspections as part of the job.
Most Alabaster single-family homes are a one-day tear-off and installation, weather permitting. Larger homes, steeper pitches, or roofs needing significant decking replacement can run two to three days. We schedule around the forecast rather than opening a roof ahead of a storm.
Storm and hail claims are generally treated as acts of nature rather than homeowner fault, which is different from a liability claim. Rates can still move for other reasons, so ask your agent about your specific policy. We can show you what the damage documentation looks like before you decide whether to file.
Often, yes. Localized wind damage, failed flashing or a handful of missing shingles are usually repairable. Replacement makes more sense when shingles are at end of life, when damage spans multiple slopes, or when matching a discontinued shingle is not possible. We show you the photos and explain which situation you are in.
Yes. Our office is on Brown Circle in Alabaster, and we have been BBB accredited here since 2019. A lot of companies list Alabaster as a service area while operating out of Birmingham or further north, which matters when you need someone out quickly for an active leak.

Many reviewers describe a full roof replacement finished in a single day, with project managers Solomon and David on site and a crew that covers shrubs and leaves no nails or debris behind. Facebook reviewers say the same, and many credit Bill by name for handling the claim. Homeowners around Alabaster and the Birmingham area also mention clear communication, storm repairs done on the first visit, and fair pricing.
